Spirit Airlines allows passengers to carry small domesticated pets with them on all domestic fights and flights to/from Puerto Rico and St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. in the guest cabin. However, pets are not allowed on international flights.

  • Only dogs, cats, small birds and rabbits are allowed.
  • A fee of $110 per pet container for each way needs to be paid by the passengers if they want to carry a pet.
  • Birds and rabbits are not accepted on flights to / from Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I.
  • Birds that cannot be carried are- Farm poultry, waterfowl, game bird, birds of prey, and flightless birds.
  • Pets like snakes, rodents, spiders and so on are not allowed. 
  • Passengers flying to U.S.V.I. need health certificate for their pets.
  • Passengers with pet travelling in the aircraft cabin with guests to Puerto Rico need to submit a rabies vaccination certificate.
  • Only six pet containers are allowed in a flight. A passenger can carry only one container with 2 pets.
  • The container cannot exceed dimensions of 18 x 14 x 9 inches. It also should fit under passenger’s seat.
  • The pet should be able to move and stand in the carrier. 
  • The pet needs to be eight weeks old. It should be odorless, harmless and inoffensive.
  • If the pet causes disturbance or becomes offensive before leaving the gate, then they can be removed.
  • The combined weight of the container and pet should not exceed 40 pounds (18.14 kg).
  • Passenger with pets cannot sit in the first row and emergency exit row.
  • A passenger with a pet has to check-in at the ticket counter.
  • If passengers want to add a pet to their reservation, then they should contact the Reservations Center of the airline. They will do the booking for pets.
